General Machinist

Job Summary:

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce, repair or modify parts, instruments, and finished products.  May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.  In performing these responsibilities, employees are to work safely, efficiently, and cooperatively in a manner that demonstrates team member involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Product knowledge
  • Use of calipers, micrometers and boroscopes for part inspection
  • Fork truck operation
  • Hoist operation
  • Read blueprints
  • Machine setup – moving fixtures in and out of machines using hand tools
  • Operate drill press
  • Operate lathe
  • Operate mill
  • Deburring of parts using a deburring knife, hand grinder or buffer
  • Responsible for inspection of finished product
  • Must be able to troubleshoot when errors occur using blueprints
  • Basic Computer knowledge
    • Able to scan parts and correct any scanning errors
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Must be able to bend, twist, squat repetitively throughout work day
  • Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English
  • See and hear within reasonably acceptable limits, (this includes the ability to see at a distance and peripherally)
  • Use time management skills and prioritization to accomplish the day’s tasks within the hours provided
  • This is a 40 hour per week position and may require mandatory overtime hours
  • May require occasional overtime hours
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
