Multimatic Maintenance/Weld Technician Job Posting in Butler, IN

SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform assignments requiring judgment and problem-solving skills relating to robotic MIG-welding processes.  Assist with setting up and change overs as it relates to MIG welding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adopt a specific group of cells and focus on all aspects of welding robustness for the assigned area.
  • Teach robot points for optimum MIG weld robustness.
  • Adjust weld fixtures to control end product dimensions and as well as MIG weld gap/robustness.
  • Develop preventative maintenance procedures related to weld fixtures and weld guns.
  • Improve process robustness, uptime and cycle time by researching and improving weld consumables.
  • Maintain shim adjustment logs for assigned area.
  • Document and improve welding parameters.
  • Provide input in evaluation of equipment and processes.
  • Understand incoming part quality and its effect on MIG weld/dimensional robustness.
  • Perform other functions as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Prefer an associate’s degree in a technical field.  Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 3-5 years of experience in welding and welding techniques.  Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and seal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to work without close supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently works near moving parts.  The associate is frequently exposed to electromagnetic fields, risk of electric shock and vibration.  The associate may occasionally work in high precarious places and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The associate may be subject to temperature extremes for extended periods of time.

TRAINING/DISQUALIFICATIONS:

Associates, who receive a job transfer/promotion, will be trained and evaluated in their new position.  The actual length of training is dependent upon the position/job assigned and the individuals’ ability to learn and perform the required duties.

During the training period, the associates’ performance typically will be evaluated and a performance evaluation completed at 30, 60 and 90-day intervals.  Criterion utilized for the performance evaluation process may include but is not limited to compliance with safety and quality standards/procedures, job knowledge, dependability/adaptability, resourcefulness, teamwork, productivity, and housekeeping 6S.

If an individual needs further training or improvement at the conclusion of the 90-day evaluation period, the training/job evaluation period may be extended an additional 30 days.  Promoted/transferred individuals are expected to maintain a satisfactory level of performance in all areas of evaluation.  Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the classification/position.

If, during the 90-day training period, an associate is unable to perform to level expected by the Company or resigns from a position, the associate may not be eligible for reapplying for the same position without demonstrating an improvement in their skill and ability from consideration for that position for one (1) year and will return to their previously held position; seniority and availability permitting.  If they do not have the seniority to hold their previous position, they will be assigned to another available position as needed, provided they can successfully perform the work.  A disqualification and/or resignation from any job award may affect an individual’s future promotional considerations.
