Economic Freedom Starts With Opportunity
At Freedom Academy, we talk a lot about economic freedom. It is at the heart of our vision and has guided our work throughout Northeast Indiana since 1991. But economic freedom doesn’t look the same for everyone. In fact, it can begin in some very different places.
For a young person, it might begin when something that has been difficult in school finally starts to make sense. For someone entering the workforce, it could be earning a certification that creates a path toward a career. For an employee, it may be learning a new technical skill that leads to greater responsibility or earning potential. For a leader, it could mean developing the confidence to communicate more effectively and build a stronger team.
For an employer, economic freedom can mean something else entirely: having the skilled people needed to grow, adapt and compete in an economy that continues to change.
At Freedom Academy, we see all of these things as connected. They are different stages of the same journey, and that is why our work has grown to encompass so much more than simply offering classes.

For more than 35 years, Freedom Academy has helped people develop skills that create possibilities. The programs we offer have changed as our communities, industries and workplaces have changed, but our purpose has remained consistent: to provide skill development opportunities that result in a better quality of life.
Today, we think about that work through three simple ideas: Learn. Grow. Lead.
Learning is where opportunity begins, and it can start long before someone enters the workforce. Through our tutoring programs, we help youth build skills for success by strengthening learning strategies, problem-solving abilities, life skills and independent learning. Sometimes that additional support can change the way a young person sees school. More importantly, it can change the way they see their own ability to learn and succeed.
Learning continues into adulthood, too. Someone may come to Freedom Academy because they are ready for a career change, want to earn an industry-recognized certification or need new skills to take the next step professionally. Our career training and certification programs create pathways into areas such as healthcare, advanced manufacturing and the skilled trades.
The circumstances may be different, but the idea behind them is the same. When people develop skills, they develop more choices about what comes next.
Growing Alongside a Changing Workforce
Of course, learning a skill is rarely the end of the story. The workplace continues to evolve, and the pace of that change is only accelerating. Technology, automation, robotics and advanced manufacturing are changing both the skills employees need and the way employers think about workforce development.
We believe training has to evolve alongside those changes.
That is why Freedom Academy continues to expand opportunities in areas such as CNC machining, industrial maintenance, programmable logic controllers, robotics and advanced manufacturing. These programs help individuals strengthen their abilities while helping Northeast Indiana employers develop the workforce they need for the future.
We also know that workforce challenges cannot always be solved with an off-the-shelf course. Employers have different equipment, processes, teams and goals. Through onsite training, customized course development, consulting and coaching, we can work directly with organizations to develop training that responds to the needs of their people and their workplace.
That is what growth looks like to us. It is not simply learning more. It is continuing to build the skills and capabilities that allow people and organizations to move forward.
Developing People Who Can Lead
As important as technical skills are, strong workplaces also need people who know how to lead.
Leadership happens at every level of an organization. It happens when someone communicates clearly, works through conflict, helps a team navigate change or encourages others to do their best work. Those skills have an impact far beyond one person’s career.
Through Freedom Academy’s leadership and professional development programs, we help people strengthen communication, confidence, decision-making, engagement and other skills that allow them to make a greater impact within their organizations.
Because when one person becomes a stronger leader, the benefit rarely stops with that individual. It reaches coworkers and teams. It strengthens organizations. And over time, it contributes to stronger communities.

Whether we are helping a young person become a more independent learner, preparing someone for an industry certification, helping an employee develop advanced technical skills, working with an employer to strengthen its workforce or preparing someone to become a more effective leader, we are working toward the same goal: creating opportunities that lead to a better quality of life.
