Molding Set-Up (B) Technician

Major Functions:

The Setup (B) Technician is responsible to carry out tasks that are assigned by the Set-Up Supervisor.  This person may at times work alone however the majority of time will be spent working as a team to perform all aspects of mold changeovers.  This person will perform preventative maintenance to insure reliability of molds and equipment along with troubleshooting and resolving downtime issues.  A limited amount of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems knowledge is required.  Call-In and short notice overtime may be required.

Essential duties and responsibilities are as follows, other duties may be assigned.  Follow all OSHA required standards, regulations and DEKALB safety procedures.  Live our core values. Perform prep work to prepare for mold changeovers.                                                                                 (10% of the job)

  • Update or revise mold and insert changeover instructions
  • Communicate parts inventory issues
  • Attend and/or conduct training sessions

Perform mold changeovers                                                                 (70% of the job)

  • Know why and what types of fasteners to select
  • Operate material handling equipment and bridge crane
  • Read and interpret mechanical prints
  • Understand thermal expansion
  • Maintain safest possible working environment for self and co-workers
  • Complete necessary documentation and records
  • Organize and direct other team members
  • Wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Uses continuous improvement to perform all aspects of job function

Perform routine preventative maintenance                                 (10% of the job)

  • Understand lubricating principles
  • Perform safety inspection on equipment
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance
  • Perform all activities as listed for the setup C tech

Respond to trouble calls and mold performance issues          (10% of the job)

  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve mold related issues
  • Identify and replace defective or work hydraulic cylinders
  • Establish and maintain effective communication
  • Respond to trouble calls and mold performance issues to seek cause and perform or assist with repair
  • Use volt-ohm-meter

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma and/or G.E.D. required
  • 2-5 year’s experience in industry field or related industry
  • Forklift license required
  • Basic hand & power tools, fasteners, measuring instruments, welding & welding components
  • Mechanically proficient

  • Thermal expansion
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and diagrams
  • Test equipment such as V-O-M and digital thermometer
  • Complete courses in basic hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical, electrical motor controls

  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or overtime as required
  • Must be able to alternate shifts as required

Maintenance Technician

Major Functions:

This position is responsible to perform daily activities that support the maintenance coverage of various operations throughout the plant.  Actions will range from those of a preventative to a proactive nature to emergency repair and corrective action.  Support of production departments, both molding and finishing, on a daily basis is an essential element of the position.

Essential duties and responsibilities are as follows, other duties may be assigned:

  • Review and perform a pre-determined preventive maintenance inspection as per schedule.
  • Perform general maintenance activities as required to:
    • Molding machines
    • Molding auxiliary systems equipment
    • Finishing Department booths, conveyor lines and associated equipment
    • Equipment related to various indirect departments
  • Perform building and grounds maintenance of a general nature as required
  • Perform inspection of fire safety system as per schedule
  • Assist in the training of the general maintenance personnel
  • Assist in training molding staff on plant start-up and shut down procedures
  • Assist with mold (tool) maintenance
  • Assist with mold (tool) repair, such as pins, sleeves, scratches, nicks and assembly after molding runs
  • Build fixtures and other miscellaneous items as required
  • Perform as required back-up assistance with molding set-ups
  • Maintain superior housekeeping throughout the department, highlighting fluid control and pellet control programs
  • Perform the essential functions of the job within acceptable OSHA and safety/environmental regulations, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, procedures and applicable work instructions

Molding Machine Operator

Major Functions:

Operates the machines and equipment used in the manufacturing of products and will work with other employees to effectively meet or exceed expectations for product quality and production rates.

Essential duties and responsibilities are as follows, other duties may be assigned.

  • Remove products from the press and process them for shipment or transfer to finishing department
  • Measure products to ensure compliance with customer specifications
  • Package and label products as directed in job packet (work Instructions)
  • Operate machinery and equipment used in the manufacture of products
  • Read and follow operating manuals; work instructions, master samples, process alerts and procedures
  • Follow established documentation for producing manufactured product
  • Perform in-process inspection of all parts and/or assemblies in accordance with the requirements stated in the job packet (work instructions) or as otherwise stated on drawings or master sample
  • Perform the essential functions of the job within acceptable OSHA and safety/environmental regulations, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, procedures and applicable work instructions
  • Perform SPC, visual and gauge inspection and complete required forms
  • Involvement in our Continuous Improvement and Safety initiatives
  • Clean the machine and surrounding work areas to ensure the housekeeping and safety of the plant
  • Operate machines as assigned and assist co-workers at other workstations as needed
  • Perform any work deemed necessary by the supervisor
  • Identify, properly contain, and label scrap/purging
  • Perform any secondary processes
  • Perform rework as necessary

Maintenance Technician

Candidate will perform all mechanical repairs on PPS production equipment, facility and grounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ability to meet physical demands and perform the essential job functions within the work environment identified in this job description.
  • Perform daily inspections and routine checks on production equipment and facility.
  • Communicate on operator levels to help with trouble shooting and improvements.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and recommend repairs needed or scope of work required for repairs on production equipment to help with production scheduling and downtime reduction.
  • Perform all mechanical repairs on production equipment that is within PPS internal capabilities.
  • Safely operate all tool room equipment (mill, lathe, grinders) as needed for repairs and improvements.
  • Capable of welding with ARC and M.I.G. Ability to safely use cutting torch and plasma cutter.
  • Safely perform minor electrical repairs on production equipment.
  • Communicate with internal electricians and outside electrical contractors on any electrical issues or projects.
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work process.
  • Help to develop P.M. procedures and review documentation on new equipment installs for future maintenance requirements and spare parts.
  • Interact with engineering and management to recommend machinery upgrades or process changes to better maintain equipment or improve serviceability.
  • Demonstrate safe general rigging practices when using auxiliary lifting equipment on Hilo.
  • Must be capable of working from elevated heights such as roof, platforms, man lifts or ladders both inside and outdoors.
  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools that fits with in PPS capabilities.
  • Work with outside mechanical, electrical or fabrication contractors as needed when scope of work is outside of PPS capabilities.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma
  • 3+ years experience in machine repair

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read drawings, blueprints, exploded views and schematics
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and all parts of machine repair
  • Torches, MIG and ARC welding
  • Fabrications applications experience
  • Basic machining skills using Mill, Lathe, Grinders and small shop equipment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere
  • Proven attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated safety consciousness
